Microsoft confirms Secure Boot update failing on some Windows 11 PCs

Microsoft has acknowledged that a recent Secure Boot certificate update is failing or being blocked on some Windows 11 PCs due to known compatibility issues.

According to Microsoft, the update is intended to improve Secure Boot security by updating the Secure Boot certificates used during startup. However, certain devices are unable to install the update successfully, while others won’t receive it at all because Microsoft has placed a compatibility safeguard on affected systems.

The company is investigating the issue and recommends users wait for a future update instead of trying to force the installation.

Same here. Windows Update says everything is up to date, so I guess my PC is one of the systems where Microsoft has temporarily paused the rollout. I’ll just wait for the revised version.

This is one of those updates where patience is the best option. Secure Boot changes affect the startup process, so I’d rather wait for Microsoft to sort it out than risk creating boot problems.

I wouldn’t recommend manually installing anything related to Secure Boot right now. If Microsoft has blocked it on certain hardware, there’s probably a good reason.

I checked Windows Update after reading this and my desktop doesn’t even offer the update. Looks like Microsoft’s safeguard is working as intended.

Yep, my Surface Laptop keeps showing the Secure Boot update but it fails every time with an installation error. Glad to know it’s not just my machine.
