Q:

I’m getting consistently blurry photos on my phone

I’ve noticed that many of the photos I take of my kids playing in the park turn out blurry. I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S22, and I usually shoot in automatic mode. The lighting is decent (late afternoon), and I’m not zooming in too much. I try to hold the phone steady, but the motion blur is still there. What could be causing this, and are there specific settings or techniques I should try to get sharper action shots?

Honestly, if you’re using auto mode, you’re setting yourself up for blur. Switch to ‘Pro’ mode, manually adjust your shutter speed to at least 1/500s, and use both hands. Also, enable ‘Motion Photos’ for burst shots. Holding steady isn’t enough, learn the settings if you want sharper images.

Thanks. I will try.

Hi, Blurry photos of moving kids usually happen because the shutter speed is too slow to freeze motion. Even in decent late afternoon light, your phone may slow the shutter to brighten the shot, causing motion blur.
Try switching to Pro Mode on your Galaxy S22 and setting the shutter speed to 1/250s or faster. Increase the ISO if the image gets too dark. If that’s tricky, use Burst Mode to take multiple shots quickly and pick the sharpest one. Also, hold your phone steady with both hands, and make sure Scene Optimizer or Action mode is enabled.
