I’m looking for a device to back up photos and videos specifically. I don’t want suggestions for cloud-based backup solutions.
Sure, Would you like suggestions based on your budget or if you want it for just photos/videos or full device backup?
Thanks, Arin, for the information. Yes, I am out of storage, and maybe that’s why my video got corrupted.
The first thing I need to do now is to take a backup of of iPhone and make some storage space.
Can you please suggest any backup device for the iPhone 12?
Hi Liora, thanks for the prompt response. Yes, you are right, my iPhone is out of storage, and iOS is not updated. Because of the storage issue, I am unable to update iOS. Even because of not updated iOS, some apps are misbehaving.
I’ll update the iOS today. Hopefully, this will fix the corrupted video.
Please check you have sufficient storage space. When iPhone storage is nearly full, video files may not save correctly.
Also, iPhone 12 uses HEVC (H.265) by default for videos. If you transfer these files to a device that doesn’t fully support HEVC, the files may appear “corrupted,” unplayable, or broken.
If your My Passport Ultra is password protected and you’re not getting the password prompt, make sure WD Security or WD Drive Utilities is installed on your PC. These tools usually trigger the prompt. Try connecting the drive to a different USB port or another computer. Don’t format or initialize the drive—that will erase your data. If the WD software isn’t detecting the drive, reinstall or update it. Share what comes up when you open WD Security with the drive connected.
Since there aren’t many details yet, here are some basic checks you can do:
Open Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to see if the drive shows up there, even without a letter or name.
Try using a different USB port or cable, preferably a direct connection without a USB hub.
See if the drive makes any sound when plugged in (like spinning or clicking).
On Windows, check Device Manager to see if it’s listed or shows any driver issue.
If it’s a new drive, it might need to be initialized or formatted before use.
It’s quite common for videos to get corrupted on an iPhone. This can happen due to storage issues (like running out of space) or if your iOS isn’t up to date.
The latest iOS version is 18.5 — try updating your device to the latest version and see if the issue persists.
thanks
Hi, I’m looking for help to repair my corrupted videos. I don’t know why some of the videos got corrupted.
Using iPhone 12, iOS 18.1
Rebuilding RAID 6 on your HPE DL360 Gen10 with 5 SSDs can take a long time, especially while the server is in use. Even with SSDs, RAID 6 rebuilds involve heavy calculations and data movement, so it’s normal for the process to take several days or even more than a week.
The “Recovering” status you see in iLO means the rebuild is ongoing. Performance will be slower during this time, particularly if the rebuild priority is low or if the system is busy with other tasks.
To speed up the rebuild, check the RAID controller settings and increase the rebuild priority if possible. Reducing the server workload and making sure all firmware is up to date can also help. It’s also a good idea to check the health of the other drives.
Overall, long rebuild times and reduced performance are expected with RAID 6 under load. Keep monitoring the progress until the rebuild finishes.
You’re in a solid spot to get your data back. Having the old HP LTO-6 library, the controller card, and even the fiber cable still on-site saves a lot of time and money. That kind of luck rarely happens.
Now it’s just a matter of setting things up. Reinstall Data Protector, connect the drive, and make sure everything is detected properly. Start by testing a few tapes to see if they read without issues. If encryption was used, you’ll need the right password or key—hopefully, it wasn’t turned on or is still documented somewhere.
If the setup works, there’s no need to buy used hardware or pay for external recovery. You’ve got what you need—just go slow and careful, and you should be able to restore the data without too much trouble.
Your DS218+ has failed, and if you’re looking for a replacement, the DS224+ is the most straightforward option. It’s compact, runs the familiar DSM interface, and handles basic tasks like backups, Usenet downloads, and Plex. However, it lacks hardware for 4K Plex transcoding unless you rely on direct play or have a Plex Pass.
If Plex 4K support is important, QNAP might be the better choice. Models like the TS-464 come with better CPUs and built-in GPUs, making them more capable for media streaming. The interface isn’t as polished as Synology’s, but the hardware offers more flexibility and performance.
DIY NAS builds using Unraid or TrueNAS are also an option. These setups give you the most control and expandability but require technical knowledge to configure and maintain.
If you want something simple and reliable, stick with Synology or consider QNAP for better media support. If you’re ready to manage your own system, a custom build can be the most powerful option.
Hi everyone,
I’m having trouble with my SanDisk 512GB Ultra USB 3.0 flash drive. It recently became unreadable, and now no matter which computer or USB port I use, it either isn’t detected properly or appears as an unformatted device.
I’m using a Windows 11 system, and while the drive doesn’t show up with a letter in File Explorer, it does appear in Disk Management—but only as unallocated space. I had some really important files on it that I need to recover.
Has anyone experienced this before and successfully recovered their data from a similar situation?
Yes, your data can still be recovered as long as nothing new is written to the drive. If the drive shows as empty but had over 900GB before, the file system is likely damaged, not the actual data.
The best next step is to reconnect the drive via SATA, but don’t write anything to it. If possible, use a write blocker. Run data recovery software that can do a deep scan and check if your files show up. Don’t try to fix the original USB board right now—it might damage the drive further. If recovery software doesn’t help, take it to a professional.
