I really need some help. This hard drive has years of family photos and important files that I never backed up anywhere else.

I have an old 2 TB external drive. The USB port on the controller board got damaged—looked rusty—and eventually stopped working. So I took the drive out of the enclosure and connected the internal SATA hard drive directly to my PC using SATA cables.

When I checked in File Explorer, it showed the drive as completely free. I’m sure it had over 900GB of data before this happened. I immediately shut down my PC because I didn’t want to mess anything up or risk overwriting anything.

Now I don’t know what to do next. Should I:

Try fixing the original controller board and reconnect the drive as it was?
Connect it again directly and run recovery software?
Or just take it to a data recovery expert and not risk anything further?

What I really want to know is:
Is there still a chance my data is recoverable?
If I reconnect the drive without writing anything to it, is it safe?
What should be my first step?

If anyone’s dealt with something like this before, I’d really appreciate some advice.

I’m facing a serious issue with my external SSD (it’s a Crucial X8 1TB). The files I’ve saved on it are gradually getting corrupted, and the number keeps increasing every day. Some files that were opening fine earlier are now unreadable.

I primarily use the drive with my Lenovo laptop running Windows 11, but I also tried accessing the files on a friend’s system that runs on Windows 10, and also on a system with Linux, but there also the same issue. Nothing seems to work.

If anyone has experienced this or knows what I can do to stop the corruption and possibly recover the data, please guide me.

Out of nowhere, my 1TB external SSD stopped responding. When I connect it to any of my three laptops, I get an error saying, “Insert a disk into USB drive.” The drive does show up in the system, but it’s greyed out and can’t be accessed at all. Has anyone faced something like this or knows what steps I can take to fix it? Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble with my SanDisk 512GB Ultra USB 3.0 flash drive. It recently became unreadable, and now no matter which computer or USB port I use, it either isn’t detected properly or appears as an unformatted device.

I’m using a Windows 11 system, and while the drive doesn’t show up with a letter in File Explorer, it does appear in Disk Management—but only as unallocated space. I had some really important files on it that I need to recover.

Has anyone experienced this before and successfully recovered their data from a similar situation?

I’m currently dealing with a batch of image files (primarily JPEG and PNG formats) that appear to have become corrupted — likely due to interrupted data transfer, filesystem errors, or possible storage medium degradation (e.g., failing HDD or USB flash drive). The corruption symptoms vary slightly between files but it fails to open in standard image viewers.

Android 16 Baklava launched June 10, 2025- initially on Google Pixel devices (not surprising!!).
The main introduction of this release is Material 3 Expressive with richer animations, colors, blur effects, and fluid gestures—set for a later update, not at initial launch.
Main Points to consider:
Live Updates: Offers real‑time notification tracking (e.g., ride‑hail, food delivery)—Google’s version of iOS-style Live Activities.
null
Auto-grouping: Automatically clusters similar notifications for cleaner management.
Desktop windowing: This feature allows users to open, move, and resize app windows. It was designed initially for tablets, foldables, and Samsung DeX.
Custom keyboard shortcuts & taskbar overflow: Enhances navigation and productivity on larger screens.
