What’s the best way to repair a corrupted MP4 file in 2026?

I transferred about 40 videos from my SD card to my PC after a weekend trip. Three of them won’t play anymore. Windows says the files are there, but VLC either freezes or gives me a black screen. Anyone managed to recover something like this?

Sony mirrorless camera.

MP4 format.

One of the files is around 8 GB.

Good advice. Also, do you know what recorded them? Phone? DSLR? Drone?

Different devices sometimes need different repair methods.

Before trying anything complicated, make a copy of the files. I’ve made the mistake of working directly on the originals before.
