An SD card can suddenly become unreadable due to file system corruption, improper ejection, physical damage, or wear from frequent use. Power loss during data writing or using the card in multiple devices may also cause errors. To fix it, try inserting the card into another device or using a card reader. If still unreadable, use disk repair tools like CHKDSK (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to repair errors. You can also recover files using recovery software. If recovery fails, reformat the card (after backing up data if possible). Always eject properly and avoid full memory to prevent corruption.

Does anyone know any fixes? I am having the same issue.

Same thing happened to me. I dont know what to do?
Let me know if you were able to fix your card.

Use CHKDSK on a PC (Windows). Connect the card via a reader.
Open Command Prompt and run: chkdsk X: /f
(Replace “X” with your card’s drive letter)

That’s a good point Kai. We should be careful while operating our devices.

You should know that Cameras, especially DSLRs and mirrorless models, write large files quickly; any interruption (like removing the card too soon or battery dying mid-capture) can corrupt them.

An SD card can suddenly become unreadable due to corruption, file system errors, improper ejection, or physical damage. Some common signs include “card not recognized,” slow performance, or missing files.
The solutions are: First, connect it to a different device or use a card reader. If it’s still unreadable, use Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to check for recognition. Avoid formatting unless necessary.
To prevent future issues, always eject safely, avoid cheap or counterfeit cards, and avoid using the same card across multiple devices without formatting it first.
