Q:

Physically broken SD card — is recovery still possible?

My microSD card is physically damaged (bent/snapped/cracked, god know what!), and it’s no longer recognized by any device. I’m trying to recover some important data (mostly photos and videos). Has anyone successfully recovered data from a physically broken SD card? Are there any DIY options, or do I need a professional recovery service? If so, any recommendations?

If your microSD card is physically damaged (bent, cracked or snapped), recovery might still be possible, but it depends a lot on how badly it’s damaged. Minor damage (like cracked casing) can sometimes be handled with “chip-off” recovery by professionals, whereas if the actual memory chip is shattered, it’s often hopeless.

If your microSD card is physically damaged (bent, cracked, or snapped) and it’s not recognized by any device, then unfortunately software recovery won’t work — those tools only help when the card is at least detected.
