Is It Safe to Recover Files to the Same Drive They Were Deleted From?

Some recovery tools allow saving recovered files to the same drive. Could this overwrite other lost data?

So the safest approach is:

Stop using the drive immediately after data loss.
Run the recovery scan.
Save the recovered files to a different drive or external storage.

Even small writes can overwrite the original data, and once that happens, the lost files may become impossible to recover. thanks for the suggestions .

Because of that risk, most recovery tools suggest saving the recovered files to another drive or external storage. This prevents accidental overwriting and increases the chances of recovering more files successfully

Generally, it’s not recommended to recover files to the same drive they were deleted from. When a file is deleted, the system usually just marks that space as available instead of removing the data immediately. If you save recovered files back to the same drive, the new data might overwrite the sectors where the lost files were stored
