Q:

How to Fix the “Secure Boot Can Be Enabled” Issue?

I encountered the “Secure Boot can be enabled when system is in user mode” issue while trying to enable Secure Boot from BIOS/UEFI settings. After making the required changes, the system started working normally, but I’m concerned about whether incorrect Secure Boot or BIOS changes could impact existing data or make files inaccessible. Has anyone experienced data loss after fixing this issue, and would using trusted data recovery software be a safe option to recover important files if something goes wrong?

No Secure Boot itself does not touch your files. What people often miss is BitLocker. If your drive is encrypted and you change Secure Boot keys or switch boot mode Windows may ask for the BitLocker recovery key and that feels like data loss even though it is not. As long as you did not reinstall Windows convert the disk or wipe TPM keys your data stays put. Before BIOS changes always suspend BitLocker or save the recovery key and you are safe. Data recovery software is only needed if the drive becomes unreadable due to a separate hardware or file system issue and in that rare case something like Stellar data recovery can help but it is not part of fixing Secure Boot.
